A blood pressure of 139/89 would be considered okay, but a reading of 140/90 on the last visit of the year gives the treating physician a failing grade, also called a “Care Gap” in the category of Controlling Blood Pressure.
Over my many years, I have observed the "Care Gap" ranges lowered, sometimes a lot, and always thought this was a way to get more patients on pharmaceuticals. Years ago, the high blood pressure cut off was 130. Now it's sometimes listed as low as 100. Who do the creators of these Care Gaps think they are kidding?
