i hope you've had NP & MD students following you & working with you all these years! wish i'd had a mentor like you 30 yrs ago when i was starting out (primary care NP). i did have common sense, & knew what i didn't know, & thanks to previous teaching life knew better how to connect with humans & how to educate clearly than many of my peers, including docs. but i really could've used a mentor with your clinical insight.
I had a few med students/residents spend time with me and many NP students (one of whom I eventually married, mentioned many times in my Wordpress blog and my books). A couple of my NP students eventually opened their own practice, as did one or two of my new NP grads I supervised as medical director. In Maine, NPs need two years of supervision after initial license. After that they can hang out their own shingle. My current PCP is an NP in DPC that I supervised after her graduation.
