I work as pediatrician in a rural practice. Even our fastest MA cannot complete all the “screenings” mandated by our employer in less than 12 minutes, leaving a fraction of the time for us to spend with the family and patient. One mandate is that every time an adolescent comes in they must complete a depression screening, even if they have done it 3 times already that month. We had to increase our appointment times to accommodate the time spent with all these screenings at every visit, leading to less appointment slots per day. Which funnels our patients to local urgent cares, who aren’t under the mandated screenings and can actually just take care of their sore throat without having to go through their social determinants of health for the fifth time in 4 months. Anyway, this is just to say that I wholly agree with you. Thanks for being a voice of reason for all of us in primary care.
