Traffic was stopped in both directions in front of the hardware store as we came through town after housecalls up north. I said to Shelby, my health advocate “ there is a dog in the road “. We stopped like everyone else, but I couldn’t see the dog anymore. He was hiding under an idling semi and people started gather around to try to get him out. He growled and snapped at anyone who came close, even people who brought treats. A bunch of men got shovels and tried to scare him out from underneath the truck. They were coming at him from all sides. I yelled “let him get out”. They left one side of the truck open, so he emerged and ran towards the parked cars. Shelby and I walked back to my car and he started sniffing around it. I opened the back door and we both said “come on, get in”.
Wouldn’t you know it, the little fellow climbed into the backseat. We got in, buckled our seatbelts and drove off, and he settled right down. Later on, he started sniffing us and giving us kisses.
He is now at the animal shelter. We promised that Shelby will visit him tomorrow. Such a sweet guy.
